Why I No Longer Offer 30-Minute Piano Lessons 🎹
As my studio has grown and I’ve had the privilege of working with more students over time, I’ve continued to reflect on what truly supports meaningful progress, confidence, and enjoyment at the piano. One change I’ve made—thoughtfully and intentionally—is moving away from 30-minute lessons and focusing exclusively on 45- and 60-minute sessions.
I want to share a bit about why. 🎶
Learning Piano Takes Time—Especially to Do It Well ⏳
Piano study is much more than just playing notes on a page. In each lesson, we’re working on technique, reading skills, musical expression, rhythm, ear training, and creativity 🎼
For many students, especially those age 9 and older, 30 minutes simply isn’t enough time to explore these areas without feeling rushed.
Longer lessons allow us to slow down, think more deeply, and build real understanding—not just get through material.
Reducing Frustration, Increasing Confidence 🌱
When time feels tight, students can become more easily frustrated. They may feel like they’re not “getting it” quickly enough, or that we’re constantly moving on before something clicks.
With 45- or 60-minute lessons, there’s space to:
Work through challenges calmly ♫
Ask questions freely ♪
Experience real progress ✔️
Students leave feeling more confident because they’ve had time to succeed—not just attempt.
Supporting Growing, Maturing Students 🌟
As students get older, their ability to focus and engage musically increases. They are capable of—and benefit from—more in-depth instruction.
Longer lessons allow us to:
🎵 Dive deeper into repertoire
🎵 Refine technique and tone
🎵 Build stronger musical understanding
A More Relaxed and Enjoyable Lesson Experience ☁️
Music should feel engaging and rewarding—not rushed.
With more time, lessons feel more natural:
♪ We can revisit tricky sections
♫ Celebrate progress
♩ Enjoy the process
That sense of ease often leads to more productive and positive practice at home.
A Commitment to Quality 💛
This change reflects my commitment to offering high-quality instruction and a thoughtful learning environment for every student. By focusing on longer lesson times, I can better support each student’s growth—both technically and musically—while creating a more positive and fulfilling experience at the piano . If you have any questions about lesson length or what might be the best fit for you or your child, I’m always happy to talk. My goal is to make sure each student has the time and support they need to truly thrive.
